Relationships: Letting love find you

Relationships; Let love find you

What is love?

Love is a language spoken by everyone and truly understood from the heart. The power of love can be utterly beautiful giving you goose bumps and making your heart flutter, or it can be something that can leave you feeling depleted, anxious and stressed.

After all money can’t make a heart love and without love, life can feel like it is a mistake, making your heart sick and miserable. If you have ever fallen into the abuse and pain of believing even money can buy love, perhaps what you are feeding isn't love!

No matter if you have fallen in love with your favorite food, you are searching for a partner or you are just trying to love your kids enough. It is an unpredictable emotion that can motivate us to be extremely productive or extremely destructive. Hence, we must question if we really understand love and how can we ever find it!

The perfect love story

Is this really how love goes or merely an illusion? Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with having good healthy relationships that function and work well.We have all heard of the happily ever after. The perfect love story. It never gives up! After all, positive relationships are good for you, but is expecting someone else to meet all your needs a reality?

My experience of real love is actually quite complicated and messy. It consists of emotional, spiritual and physical trauma at times and can be full of grief and loneliness. A hard journey of self knowledge that takes incredible courage, as well as moments of deep joy and occasional normality.

In my work it always touches my heart the experiences that people bring from relationships. Even when abuse and pain is too much and the relationship is enough to break them, most people would rather be bashed and abused, rather than be alone or cut off from their family or friends.

I truly believe we are not created to live in constant suffering and that facing up to reality could mean accepting people for who they really are and deciding if their behaviour is something we can tolerate or not? This is a much harder decision to make when it comes to family, particularly your children. After all we love them unconditionally.

If love is patient and kind; not jealous or conceited or proud; not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; does not keep a record of wrongs; is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. It never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail. What would relationships look like?

Love is a light to your soul and my desire is for all people entering into any kind of love relationship is to expand their beliefs on love. Remembering the language you communicate in often reflects the state of your own heart. It is amazing how love can flow so freely when you make a decision to put others before you.

The definition of true love, selfless love, the kind of love that puts others first is certainly something we don’t see in the movies. Training yourself in a love language that is less about you perhaps allows love to find you.
